JULY 1998 MINUTES ARCHIVE
Tue - Jul 28th - 08:20 am
Soooo!  Everyone get their copy of virus-free SiN yet?!  Good lord, that's what inspired the SuperFTP, I'm sitting on cable with a 514K connection potential and it's dribbling in (...all 34 Meg...) at an astonishing 1.1 K/sec (...hold me back! I have to pee!...).  After about two hours of stagnant bit movement, I cancelled the FTP and went to bed.  I grabbed it this morning after the channels had received their enema in less than 20 minutes.

As it stands, there's a nice fresh copy on the SuperFTP of the SiN Demo (Superftp/games/sin/) so if you've not been able to endure the trickle from the main FTP sites, go nuts, it's waiting for you...

Mon - Jul 27th - 03:00 pm
Seems there's been some concern flying around regarding the new SiN demo which was released (...finally...) yesterday, there's a virus alert that's been tagged to the 33 Meg monster demo file, similar to the 'Eraser Bot' incident a few months back!  I'll be sure to have a virus free copy on the Abattoir SuperFTP by this evening, or, if you want to 'try' and get a copy, here's a link directly to the file on GamesNET (...which hosts Ritual...) that's a local, virus free copy direct from Ritual/Activision.  Wanna' know more, here's a read.me with all the details.

Sorry for the lack of updates on the Abattoir the last while, like I bitched before, work's kicking my ass worse then Robes on the Abattoir!  The blackout curtains seem to work great, I bought all the fabric they had (...guess I best go back and see if there's anymore now...) so the sun's been taken care of...  For BTM3, I'm trying to decide what CAM program we should use to power the WOQ, I've taken a quick peek at the new LavaCAM, it sounds pretty good, if you've stumbled across any Quake2 CAM programs, please let me know about it!  Once again, if you've not already done so, get your name in for Beat the Meat3!

Sat - Jul 18th - 11:12 am
I was wondering why the Abattoir was a little quiet, seems those bastards at the Wave decided to alter my IP address, please take note of the new IP above (...24.226.8.75...) and make sure you change your address book and reset your IP for the SuperFTP Server as well (...or you'll not be able to log in!  DuH!...).

Picked-up some black covering material for the windows, sorry, Orion... no more cardboard falling on you!  :)  Trusting I'll have my G200 before BTM3 starts, we're going to 'pump up' the WOQ this time with sound (...Ooh!...) and for those who might want to stay later on saturday, we might just crank in a DVD downstairs (...when was the last time you were at a theatre that severed beer?...).  Once again, get your names in, I'd like confirmation on who's coming and who's bringing a system! (...Scorpio, would you like me to bring a truck over this time?...).

Sat - Jul 11th - 09:10 am
That's interesting, I jumped on this morning to check things out and last night's update was gone!?  Twisted, sister!  Consider it re-posted (...below...)

Fri - Jul 10th - 11:58 pm
Okay, I think I've abused enough bandwidth the last 24 hrs.  The screenshots have been placed for BTM2, please enjoy the drool...  Sgt.Slaughter called me up and invited me to join him at Comdex98, fun for all!  So, I'm tired and wanna' drop a couple moments of my life on Unreal, so this is the quick skinny of CD98:  Creative Labs booth: totally chewed-out the promo guy, quote: "...you bastards better knock it off, I have god only knows how many SB16's in a box, SB32's, VideoBlasters, and AWE64's... Now you come out with this...  KNOCK IT OFF!"  He chuckled...  We previewed the proto "Sound Blaster Environment" card...  True, channel programmed quad surround card...  of course they were in bed with the buds from Unreal.  Unreal has total support for this card (...that's not production...) and my god, does it sound Unreal!  (...I'll tell you about it if you ask, too tired to post...).

Matrox:  Saw my G200 in full action, all I can say; "Knock it off you Bastards!", nothing short of beautiful, I'm going to enjoy the card big time (...only a couple more weeks, only a couple more weeks...). We'll be using this card to power the WOQ at the BTM parties.  Funny thing, the new NT Server at the Abattoir, we completely forgot we shoved a G100 Matrox in it, DuH!  Turn your PowerVR on you moron!  Logitec:  Renewed my 'Frequent Purchase Miles' card.  Microsoft:  Stop taking-up so much floor space you F-Stains...

Okay, there's Comdex98 (...Oh, didn't mention the shattered shin hit and run I saw, right on John Street, the guys shin was twisted, with the bone sticking ri... well, as Hammy-Hamster says; "That's another story"...).

Abattoir news:  'Beat the Meat' date has officially been changed!!  Erase that mark you made on you favourite calendar (...just under the nipples...) and change it to August 8th.

Thu - Jul 9th - 08:50 am
Wow, have I been to the wall at work, sorry for the lack of updates folks, I rushed our 'Beat the Meat2' films in and paid the premium for one hour developing and couldn't get back to pick them up till a couple days ago (...the guy at the development place says; "We're running about 180 minutes on our One hour service right now, is that Okay?", so I said "The last 8 films I've developed here have taken two hours, why are you still calling it One hour service, if you delivered pizza, you'd be broke!", he chuckled at my attempt to make him feel bad and says; "...well, some times we just get real busy, so, 180 minutes, is that Okay for you?", I said with a straight face; "Sure, 1/3rd off the One hour price sounds fine to me...".  He didn't get it!...)  Anywhooz, just now I'm trying to scan them in...  I want my Olympus D600 Digital now!!!  I hope to have the shots up today!

For those who have poked around the Abattoir and noticed, we're no longer hosting the Friday Nite LAN Party's at M-K, but have switched format over to the in-house LAN party...  You'll notice in the LAN reservation switch, that 'Beat the Meat3' will be held August 1st!  Mark it down, and please let me know if you're coming!

Mon - Jul 6th - 10:00 am
Too much fun...  Thanks to all that came out for 'Beat the Meat2' on saturday, we'll have photo gallery action in a day or so.  Disinfect kicked-ass (...as usual...) Scorpio brought every piece of hardware he owned, including his scanner (...which is always pertinent for playing Quake...).  Friday was the pre-setup, saturday was the game...  We started with DM, went to CTF (...which the red team dominated, if memory serves...) then tried a little Unreal and Battle Zone.  We'll have to check the calendar to see when 'Beat the Meat3' will be...  Trusting dudio will be walking by then!  ;)

Keep checking the Abattoir screenshots for a full review and pics of the game...

(Beat the Meat tomorrow) Fri - Jul 3rd - 01:00 pm
Following the Quake2-3.17 fix that's out, for those of you with an account on the Abattoir SuperFTP, you'll find the patch there, however, if you're coming to the 'Beat the Meat2' tomorrow, please do not apply the patch to your machine or, well, you'll be playing with yourself (...no comments!...).  Until the new Lithium patch is out for 3.17 (...WhiteFang's still trying to get the source code...) we will not be supporting Quake2-3.17 on the Abattoir for at least a few days.

This will be my last update till possibly tomorrow, everyone have a great, safe weekend and we'll catch you at the Abattoir tomorrow!!  I popped out at lunch to grab some chain and cable for the QuakeWall, I hope to have that up and running tonight (...get over here, Brandon, time to earn your stripes!...)  Again, if you need directions, drop me EMail.  There's always room for more if you drag a friend, get recruiting marine!  :)

(Beat the Meat tomorrow) Fri - Jul 3rd - 08:50 am
The weekend is once again upon us, congratulations to those who made it...  Set-up and testing now goes into overdrive for tomorrow's 'Beat the Meat2', we're going to set-up the 225" Wall-O-Quake in the meat cellar (...coined by a patron, that's the basement...) so if you're not in for a particular game, or want to relax and shoot a game of pool, you can still catch the carnage in ?living? colour  :)  (...or if you've just been snipped and want to sit on a bag of frozen peas and relax cuz you can barely walk...) <--inside joke

After extensive beta testing with 10+ versions of Lithium, WhiteFang has finally released a public revision of the Lithium II MOD, version 1.10 is now public...

Lithium II v1.10 is now available at http://www.planetquake.com/lithium.  This version includes support for the Lithium Master Server, which allows for a multi-server chat feature currently.  Some bugs that were present in v1.06 have been fixed as well.

Matt "WhiteFang" Ayres
Lithium Software

Once again, if there are any 'early-birds' out there who wish to set-up tonight (...Scorpio!, Brandon!...) please feel free!  The festivities begin tomorrow morning (...morning being around 11:00 am/ish!...)  Grab your PC and get your butt to the Abattoir marine!  (...note to all, as we do not want to create IP conflicts over the WAVE, you may not be able to log onto the Abattoir Saturday...).  If you require directions, just ask me "how the hell do I get to the Abattoir!?".

This *just* in...  Quake 3.17 is out!!  The variety of bug fixes are enormous as Quake2 continues to evolve, you can catch all the skinny on 3DEdge.com (...thanks for that PaK!...)

(Beat the Meat in 2 days) Thu - Jul 2nd - 09:50 am
We've finally unpacked and started loading-up the new NT Server, gotta like that ultra-wide Scuzz!  The 10100 RPM drives should keep the house 'a rocking this Saturday!  Have yet to check the QTV Cam patch, but we're hoping all will be ready in time!  I'm extending a hearty welcome to any 'early-birds' for 'Beat the Meat2', if you want to help set-up and or get your PC ready in advance of Saturdays bloodletting, feel free to drop in any time after 5:00 pm tomorrow, if you need directions or the Abattoir's phone number, drop me EMail...

Quick note: Unreal has a patch out (...beta at that...) that fixes major issues with respect to internet network play, just run this zip into your C:\Unreal\System directory overwriting the old files.  As we will probably be cracking into Unreal this LAN Party, be sure to bring your CD with you! (...even if you're not bringing a PC, but have a copy of Unreal, it would be appreciated!...)

As many of you don't know (...hehehe...)  MeatMan's Abattoir is a beta testing site for the Lithium II MOD, last night, we literally changed Lithium versions 6 times!  The server did take a nose dive some time between 1:00 am and 6:00 am this morning, but has been -fixed- as since.  Sorry for the down time, that's what beta testing's all about! :p
