SEPTEMBER 1998 MINUTES ARCHIVE
 Wed - Sep 30th - 10:08 am
Quite the time we're having, and quite the luck we're enveloped in with respect to these graphics cards!  Steve and I spent the better portion of last night testing and troubleshooting the Matrox G200 and Canopus Pure3D II accelerator cards.  After exhaustive testing and reloading and operating system upgrades and downloading and formatting and kicking...  Here are the results:  I've reinstalled my Matrox Millennium II and Matrox M3D!

Both these cards are F'ed!!  The Matrox G200 couldn't be pampered enough to run Quake, the card is screwed and frankly, after waiting 4 months to get the F'ing thing, I'm a little less then impressed (...fair enough, It's just one bad card in the lot, but it doesn't make the last two weeks of wasted efforts any sweeter to swallow...).  The Canopus wouldn't run an F'ing thing, at least the G200 scored some points there...  This card was also defective.  This whole incident has cost me money, aggravation and much time, both Canopus and Matrox can come to my house, install a free card and wash my privates for me...

My apologies to everyone trying to get on the Abattoir server last night, and to all who were attempting up / downloads to the Abattoir SFTP server as well (...very sorry Brandon, I know you got hit three times...).  The machines were going up and down all night as we attempted to make the impossible work.  I'm mad enough right now to swear, but I have more class then that in a public forum (...fucking cards...).

Okay, we have a good turn-out happening for BTM4, Big'D's going to come after work (...3:30ish...) and most everyone else will be in by noon...  Bring a sleeping bag if you like! :)  We have two new players to add to the fray, and If you know of any friends who may be interested, by all means, get recruiting marine!!  LAN Parties are for fun, and the more the merrier.  If you've not yet sent in your name, please don't hesitate, I need to know in advance who's coming, so register now.

Anyone wanna' help me get my damned G200 working with Quake2!?  Still having glitches (...the server runs no problem, it's local play that's screwed...).  Sgt.Slaughter has provided a spare testing hard drive and we're going to down the Abattoir tonight for a 'short' time to re-format and install JUST Win98, G200 Drivers and Quake2 from fresh to see if it's a driver Direct X6 kinda' problem we're up against (...that's what I get for swapping between 3 accelerator cards in one week...).  Sure hope we can get things up to snuff before play time, but it looks like Scorpio will be playing on the WOQ for now.

Greetings!!  I have returned (...with 280 digital photos no-one will want to see!..)  New Brunswick is as beautiful as ever, I had a great time visiting the family...  Now I'm back, my red-eye flight required a 4:30 am wake-up (...local time...) and I arrived shaken, not stirred in Toronto this morning (...just a LITTLE turbulence on the way down!  Geez!..).  You may have seen a picture similar to this on PQ in their 'Picture of the Day' section, it said this place was located in Moncton N.B., so you know I had to go find it myself and take a snap shot!

So, what did I miss!?  Apparently an earthquake with its epicentre in Pennsylvania rumbled through!?  Just my luck to miss it!  Thanks to all who wished me well, it was nice to get home to 386 EMails and 78 ICQs (...not!  Heh-heh...)  Now I'm off to fiddle with the G200, and take a shower!! (...and or, nap!..).

Looks like the Canopus Pure3D II is being more fickle then the Matrox!  I've now upgraded (...gave in...) to Win98 and we're going to give it our best shot to get the Matrox G200 (...which has already won 47 international awards!..) operational tonight...  Just a quick note, I'll be out of province as of tomorrow till the following Sunday, so I'll take this chance to plug BTM4 again!  We have a good turnout so far, and there's plenty of room for more, so please get your reservation in now!  We'll be playing LMCTF and try to get a little Action Quake2 going as well as dabbling in Battlezone...  All going well, we'll have the server set-up (...or Scorpio's machine...) downstairs and you can have a hack at playing your favourite game on the 225" WOQ!  (...Battlezone should look rather dizzying at that size!..).  We have some more new players coming out, so come join the fun!  We're right in the heart of Oakville and easy to find, don't be shy!

Should you have any questions, please drop Sgt.Slaughter EMail as I'll not be able to get at mine till I'm back from down east.  Enjoy your week!

Anyone else manage to get their hands on a Matrox G200?  If so, did yours' work!?  I spent all weekend dicking around with this card and its stability just kept going downhill...  Judging from the crashes it was producing, I'm sure the video memory in it was bad (...my luck, Huh!?..).  Of course, all the cards are gone the next day from the warehouses, so I'm once again screwed!  Steve has now set me up with a Canopus Pure3D II (Voodoo2 Chip, 3Dfx, 12meg deal) to try out, a tad more cash (...GasP!..) but that's what life's all about.

First impression of the Canopus, nice chips, cute fan, lotsa' memory, real nice box!  Let's hope when I get home and install it, things work!  I'm hell-bent on having a pumped machine for playing on the WOQ during BTM4 -- come hell nor bad memory, it's going to happen!!  :)

 Fri - Sep 11th - 12:10 pm
Happy morning again!  MeatMan FINALLY received his Matrox G200, that didn't take too long!  Initial report on the card: Really nice heat-sinks!!  Chips are arranged beautifully!  <GriN!>  Not quite as easy to get up and running as the Millennium II with an M3D, but we're working on it!  Controls and set-up options look great, and after getting it fired-up on Quake2, I was rather impressed!  Frame rate is outstanding, and Battlezone looks much better then with the straight M3D (...as it should!..).  Most important for me, the extra speed, single card, and foremost the composite and SVGA outputs for the WOQ (...can't wait to play Battlezone on 225" screen!...).

 Thu - Sep 03rd - 09:07 am
Alas...  It's with a tear stained cheek I must announce the postponement of BTM4 (...second bumping...)  We're moving it to October 3rd.  Reason?  Well, to put it short; the 12th simply conflicts with too many people!  We already have enough people, but there's too much work and expense involved to host it for ten people (...if you follow me...).  People who are in the confirmed listing now, will be left there, for all others, please let me know!

 Tue - Sep 01st - 09:00 am
Happy morning!  MeatMan just had two Box Seat tickets to this Sunday's SkyDome Jays game dropped in his lap!  (...good thing we rescheduled BTM4 to the following weekend!..)  Who's not been to a game this year in the Boxes?  Lobster anyone!?  If you're going to that game, keep an eye on the JumboTron, we'll try to get the Abattoir logo up there, it's a little bigger then the WOQ!  Hahaha... (...yeah, right!..)
