OCTOBER 1998 MINUTES ARCHIVE

Good news, we've done some testing and it would seem the Abattoir Server is more then happy about accepting Heretic II to it's list of duties (...we asked real nice!..) so as of today, you can add the Abattoir's IP to your server listing (...which would be rather bare I imagine!..).  We'll be running a dedicated Heretic II server from this point on, as well as our Quake2 server and SuperFTP.  The Abattoir had more then enough snot left with all running, and the bandwidth doesn't seem to be a problem, enjoy, and Frag on!  (...you can all stop ICQing me now...)

Oh yeah, I trust Windows reminded the absent-minded that Daylight Savings Time ended this morning!  Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour, most companies are no longer accepting that excuse!  :)

Just had a shot at Heretic II -- Kinda' brings you back a bit! <GriN!>  The game play is very much like Die by the Sword, same movement / action.  Looks like a winner to me!  As stated, it's on the Abattoir SuperFTP for download, but keep in mind, although the game requires 62Meg to run, the extraction and set-up gobbles over 200Meg of uncompressed disk space to set 'er up, so make sure your trash bin is empty.  You'll also require DirextX 6 to run this (...also on the SFTP...).  Enjoy, if there's call, we'll run a Heretic II Server as well, drop me your input!

Anyone tried to download the new Heretic II Demo from Activision?  Good luck huh!  Their FTP Server is more screwed then ID's was when the first Quake2 Point Release came out!  But never fear, the Abattoir SuperFTP is here, we pounded Activision's server relentlessly till it had succumb to our PingFest and Heretic II is sitting and waiting for you to grab at your leisure on the SFTP right now (...ftp://superftp/games/heretic2...). We have the latest version (...40Megs...).  Off to giver' a shot now!

When were you last on the Abattoir?  Anyone notice a change?  That's right, we're playing Classic Quake now!  MeatMan's Abattoir has missed the great maps and textures of Quake days gone by...  To celebrate, we've roamed the net for the best recreations of the classic Quake levels remastered in THX for the Quake2 engine!!  Wow!  I want some!!  Okay then, set your download options to overload (...turn your downloads all "on" in the multiplayer menu on Quake2...) and log in, we're doing Quake Classic this month!

When you log in, the Abattoir will stuff you the current map, you do nothing, Quake2 does all the work...  Come out and enjoy the great Deathmatch maps we love!!  (...it's kinda' weird, but it's all brand new again!...)  We're also taking votes, any other maps you want to see, any models you want the Abattoir to carry?  Send 'em in, we're turning all the options on!  Come play as Kenny (..."You Bastards!!"...) Cartman, Crackwhore...  Oh, Cartman is Sgt.Slaughter's fav, so if you see the tubby bastard running around, shot him one extra time for me!  :)

(...Nothing to say, hey, it happens...)

 Mon - Oct 12th - 11:46 am
Happy Thanksgiving (...to our Canadian troops!..).  Looks like it's turkey sandwiches for the next twelve weeks at work!  For the time being, I've given-up on my Matrox G200, it's still unstable and I've tried / re-loaded everything, sorry, but I need to USE my machine, Matrox, and I can't tolerate one that's running on life-support.  I'll wait till you bastards get a clue, then re-install (...or return it and go for something else!..).

Quake3 news, PaK has come up with some Quake3 screenshots showing off some of the great effects we can expect from the new engine, HDTV Letterbox output, single pixel Alpha blending, major pump in graphics, here's a link to PaK's directory, go take a peek! (...I've left Targeting to the LAN window so you can return easy...).

 Thu - Oct 08th - 06:04 pm
Working on the screenshots, there's one page up so far, more to come soon...  Looks like BTM5 will be wired for sound, we're grabbing a the new D-Link Hub (...coming out in a month...) and hard wiring the house (...Fun!...).  Taking the time to throw a "Hello!" out to 'Drk Nyte [JPB]' from Cheryl (...I would'a kicked yer ass if I knew you were on punk!  Muahahaha...).

 Mon - Oct 05th - 09:32 am
Great time!  Thanks to all that hauled ass to the Abattoir Saturday, again, a great time had (...good food too, if I don't say so myself!..).  The numbers continue to grow, we had 11 machines up this time and the hub was very happy to have ya!  Brandon played his last BTM this time (...for sure!..) and came bearing gifts, thanks for the Molson Sweatshirt and monster can, the sweat I'll wear, the beer I'll save for next time you're back to visit from BC!

Death match was great, then we got hot and heavy into Loki's Minions CTF and balanced it out by having Robes as almost a team on his own!  (...you need a woman, Robes!  Hahaha...).  Got a peek at Action Quake for the first time, and we all tried a little Half-Life (...that looks like a winner too...).  Sputnik played great for someone working on 3 hours sleep, Scorpio and HerbieLoveBug were the last two standing in the wee hours of the morning...  Sgt.Slaughter awoke to a new desktop wallpaper courtesy of the digital camera and photo shop (...shall we put that up on the Abattoir SFTP too!  Hehe...).

Again, a thanks out to all that played, looking forward to seeing you all at BTM5 December 5th!  Mark 'er down on your calendar, and get your name in early!  Keep tuned to the Abattoir Screen Shots page for Saturday's pictures.

 Thu - Oct 01st - 08:56 am
Welcome to October!  Wow, have you taken a peek at the LAN Switch on the Reservations page?  Quite the turn-out, and we only seem to be growing!  Time to buy another table and more ethernet cards!  There's still room folks, so drag a friend, just be sure to let me know if you want in on BTM4 this Saturday by registering now.

After the last weeks' fiasco with the accelerator cards, Slaughter has a new G200 coming in this morning (...see Matrox, look at the loyalty going on here!  How 'bout a perk fer Christ sake!?  Between personal and my company, I've purchased over 28 Matrox cards!  How 'bout a "frequent Buyer Bonus" or something!?..)  So if all goes well (...Ahem!..) we'll be big screen for BTM4.  Hey, who knows, perhaps I should ask if Matrox would be interested in offering-up some M3Ds or perhaps a G200 for a tourney prize?
