The
LAN Party scene
is starting to catch local, there's a three day frag-a-thon happening in
Toronto the last
weekend of January, taking place Friday to Sunday. An industrial
unit has been rented and has capacity for up to 100 FragBashin' Quakers.
They'll be playing DM, CTF, WF and LMCTF in a round-robin tournament. Cruiser
asked us to mention it on the Abattoir,
so pop over to QuakeFestToronto
and check out the details.

Down
went the Abattoir
at 3:30pm for a half hour while we moved the new hub to the rack station
downstairs and the power switch was thrown! The "cLANetic-Energy"
network is officially alive! We're now set to expand even further,
Oops!!! I almost said too much!! :D

Just
a reminder for those of you who receive the Abattoir's
Morning Haha, as of today, it's over!
You'll no longer receive it unless you've added yourself using the link
on the Main page (...or the one a couple inches below me...)
Setting yourself up takes a half second.
We've
now spent -quite a bit- on additional network 'stuph' and after the wiring
this coming weekend, the Abattoir
is "Plug'n'Frag"®
with it's beefed-up 100 MHz "cLANetic-Energy"
network (...I just like saying that! Hahaha...) So get your hard
drives cleaned cuz the BTM's
are always a good chance to get your SuperFTP
fix at lightning speed. Company Christmas party tonight, Woohoo!!

Looking
good! We now have a wonderful collection of RJ45
jacks in the walls! Living room area has a 10Plex wall plate, as
does the Dining room area, and a 6Plex up in the Abattoir
Lab (...just say no, to tripping over network
trunks!..) All that's left is the wiring in the basement at the
main hub (...all that's left! Hehehe, this is really cutting
into my Half-Life playing time!..). Everything going well, the
Abattoir will
be happy and pumped for the upcoming BTM
Lan Party... I've thought of a name for the Abattoir's
new Network, I've dubbed it "cLANetic-Energy"
(...rather cool name huh!?..) And with it comes the Abattoir
Ping-Promise; "If you lag, you get a free nacho...".
Other
HUGE news is on the forefront, but it's too juicy to let out premature,
Okay!! I can't stand it, I'll tell ya!! No, gotta' hold back...
It's far easier to let the cat out of the bag then it is to stuff it back
in...

There's
holes in them there Abattoir
walls!! Yuppers, Steve and I are hard-wiring the Abattoir,
no more massive network trunks trailing down all the stairs, we're soon
about to be "Plug'n'Frag"®.
On another note, the Abattoir's Morning Haha!!
has started to reach some large numbers, and
I know there's a few of you who can't stand messages coming into your EMail
with 3,342 EMail addresses stuck in the top! To remedy, and to make
my life a little easier (...and we all want that for me, don't we?...)
I've decided to run ListBOT
to co-ordinate the Morning Haha!!.
If you've not already done so (...or if you skipped right over it on
the main page...) Sign-up now for a mailbox smile every morning!(NOTE: This is an Archived news item, the
above function no longer exists)

Okay,
the MA-Maps.exe
patch has been 'un-broken', download
at will... The file is 8.5Meg in total, but will save you a whack
load of time getting into the action on the Abattoir.
|
Tue
- Nov 17th - 01:01 pm
|
Oops!
The file MA-Maps.exe
is slightly broken, all the maps and textures are there, but it places
a MAPS and TEXTURES folder in your Quake2
folder rather then your baseq2
folder (...where they're supposed to go...) so until I get back
to fix 'er tonight, be aware you'll have to move the folder once you run
the patch (...I'm an idiot! WinZip101...) No biggie!
And just so you know, the MA-Maps.exe
is not a terribly small patch (...just over 8Meg...) so if you have
an account on the Abattoir SuperFTP,
you may want to grab it from there depending on your connection.
Time
to plug BTM5
again!! Get your name in on the Reservations page if you've not already
done so! December 5th is just around the corner (...which also
means I better get some Christmas shopping started!..).

There's
been a few requests for this, so here it is: As the Abattoir
has switched over to Classic Quake
maps under Quake2, as well as a new run of maps being used by permission
of Daniel Nolan, you have to set your Download options to "ON" for the
Abattoir to stuff
the maps to you. You need only have the map downloaded to you once,
the next time that map comes up on the Abattoir,
you'll be shoved into it instantly. A few have asked for a complete
"Map Pack", download the self-extracting file, and it will install all
the Abattoir
maps as well as textures directly into your correct Quake2 directories,
once there, your in the game with no waiting! The file's called "MA-Maps.exe",
it's on the Abattoir SuperFTP
under "superftp/games/quake2/", or you can grab a local
copy right now (...if you don't have
an SFTP Account...). There's also a copy on the Download's Page.
Looks
like we're off to wire-up the Abattoir
now, we're heading off to grab some more wall plates and connectors, wish
us luck while we pound holes in the walls! :)

What
a great time we had last night, my sister Karen and her boyfriend Dave
(...BodyCount...) headed off to PlanetQuake (...Oops!..)
I mean Planet Hollywood
for supper in Toronto. I met and shook hands with Samuel
L. Jackson who was there briefly to promote
his new movie "The Red Violin" (...or something like that!..) then
we headed off to CBC
for a taping of "Royal Canadian Air Farce".
As
usual, I got rowdy and tried to get the audience to do the "Wave" (...didn't
work...) then started bidding on an autographed "Air
Farce" tee-shirt, the bidding went between
myself and a woman in the far back corner who kept raising me by one buck,
when it got all the way up to $60, I asked the director (...who was
auctioning...) if it was 100% cotton (...cracked the crowd up...)
then rammed the bit straight to $150! (...proceeds to the Daily
Bread Food Bank, so it was a great cause...). At this point,
the cast members came back out and stated for $150, I think we can convince
everyone to sign a second shirt! Was thanked by the cast for leaving
$150 poorer (...Luba Goy says "Hello!"..) Was a great time,
like a dolt, I forgot to bring the digital camera, but we'll go again for
sure! Anyone else care to join!? We can make a "Field Trip"
of it? The show's airing tonight on CBC at 8pm (...you'll hear
us whooping it up! Hehehe...) then repeats this Monday. Open
Mike with Mike
Bullard next? Anyone? If we have
some interest, I'll get something organized!
Have
a safe "Friday the Thirteenth"!!

There's
no doubt about it, this new set-up is a scream! Sgt.Slaughter and
myself had a hoot testing the new Abattoir
configuration with EraserBOT...
If you've not tried yet, get into the Abattoir
now and have a hack at it, it's a riot! The new modem has had a huge
positive impact on the SuperFTP
and pings on the Abattoir
server, I'm a happy camper again! (...no Quake pun intended...).
[ Commercial Break ]:
Sputnik (...Paul Reinis...) is entering the Voodoo2 world, and needs
some help unloading his current video card, so If you're after a great
deal (...and this is one of 'em...) EMail him here and tell him
you're interested! He's offering up his Pure3D
Voodoo1 card with 6MB and composite video
out for $100!! (...That's almost half off the current retail folks!..),
I know a few of you were talking about getting a Voodoo1 at the last BTM,
this will be your chance to grab one cheap!
We're
also looking for Ping FeedBack Folks! Please take a sec to record
your average Ping on the Abattoir's
Quake server, and let me know how it's faring.

Geez!
Enough happening today!? We now have our new Samsung Cable Modem
up and running, with it, we're expecting awesome thru-put and more stability!
(...it'll happen, just ask the cable guys, they'll tell ya! <GriN!>...).
With this switchover however, comes a new IP address for the Abattoir!
Please note, we're now at "24.226.78.74",
so remember to change your SuperFTP
address as well!
After
all's said and done, we're up and running at mega-speed! The new
HUB looks spanky (...love the flashing lights!...) and the new Cable
Modem's cranking it out at high speed, now to get the aforementioned UltraMOD
going and try out the new EraserBOT Abattoir
module! Come giver' a try!!

More
great news! The Abattoir's
new D-Link
DSH16 ethernet hub arrived! Now
during BTM LAN
Parties, you'll experience your favourite multiplayer games over a 100MBS
auto switching network! This HUB is the first in a new generation
of super-fast repeaters -- Auto sensing, the DSH16
will run both 10 and 100MBS with switching capability to improve network
speed even more and the price is the real ground-breaker, it clocks in
at about $45 (CAN) a port (...including taxes...). Complete
with UpLink and a host of great features, if you're looking for a HUB,
this is your baby! Now, who's coming over to help run the cables
throughout the Abattoir?
:)

Great
news all... I've personally been bitchin' to WhiteFang (...creator
of our beloved Lithium II
MOD...) for almost a year now to incorporate
the EraserBOT
code in Lithium,
this will allow users to connect to the Abattoir
and play, even if no one is on yet... As of today, he's not done
it! <GriN!>.
I've recently (...as in 20 minutes ago...) pulled the UltraMOD
down, it's a clone of the Lithium,
with EraserBOT
coding!!
As
of tonight, MeatMan's Abattoir
will be run-testing the UltraMOD
with EraserBOT!!
Please take a moment to try it out, remember, you don't need to download
a thing, just connect to the Abattoir
and there'll be someone, or something to shot! Drop me your feedback!
The BOTs are smart, quick and have been programmed with some great smart-ass
chat lines, so come on over to the Abattoir
and kick some BOT-butt! We'll be implementing the EraserBOT
code at about 6:30 pm... Please keep in mind, this MOD is in its
Beta, so report any bugs if you catch any!

Seems
MicroSloth has
started to dig it's talons into LinkExchange
now (...is nothing sacred!?..) LinkExchange
was asking for 'feedback' and thoughts, I couldn't resist:
"Who do you want to own today?"
I guess "LinkExchange" ranks up there! Heh-heh... Hadda' throw
a poke out to you! Best of luck, LinkExchange rocks...

questions or concerns. :)
Thanks, Lore |
Looks
as though the new D-Link DSH16
Ethernet Hubs are out, time to get wired at the Abattoir!
This coming BTM
we'll dabble in a little "Half Life",
so get your name in if you've not already, December 5th is just around
the corner!

 The
Abattoir was
part of the tourist stop when Jeff (Honor/Loyalty)
and Kristie (PMS)
came through from New Jersey on their first trek to Canada. Jeff
said; "We'd love to stop by the sacred all-male, testosterone fogged Abattoir!"
so we spent the afternoon and evening together and gave 'em the rapid-fire
ram-tour of Toronto. (...they were on their way through to Montreal,
so we only had a couple hours...) Of course, you have to check-out
the SkyDome and
dine at the 360
on the top of the CN Tower.
 We
had a great supper, danced on the glass floor some 1,200ft up, then hopped
up to the Observation Pod (...doesn't get any higher then that on this
planet folks!..) The food was great, the view was breathtaking,
and we jumped around like a bunch of idiot tourists! Had a great
time Jeff and Kristie, you're good people! Hope to see you again
soon when we can spend a bit more time!
What's
that got to do with the Abattoir?
Nuttin'!! Just thought you old ClanC
Warriors would like to see who you've shot in the back! <GriN!>

Woah,
looks like the Abattoir
needed another upgrade! We've just popped in another 6.5Gig
(...for your enjoyment...) so there's plenty of room again (...we're
now at 19.5Gig, that should do for another few months...). Okay,
Cable Modem Talk Time -- I've heard nothing but bad-ass things about the
new Samsung Cable Modems, if you have any insight, lay it on the line --
Daft has brought
some interesting and disturbing facts to the table, so I'm holding on to
my Zenith for
a while. Cgocable has been doing some big-time modifications in the
east Burlington area, and as such, the Abattoir's
connection has suffered greatly. Slaughter and myself were 'trying'
to play a friendly game of Heretic II
and his Ping to the Abattoir
server was spiking as high as 5,500ms at times (...unplayable, of course...)
keep in mind, his machine sits less then 5 feet from the Abattoir
server!
Thank
God Ma-Bell will be bringing ADSL to Oakville in the next year, you just
KNOW we'll be switching the Abattoir
over the second it's available (...if Cable doesn't get it's act together
by then...). In the mean time, till the Cable techs get out to
the Abattoir
and 'tweak' us again, please bear with us!
Other
news, Viking/Loyalty,
one of the original Quake ClanC
members from NJ will be travelling up to Abattoir
home base on Wednesday... His girlfriend and himself are taking a
well deserved vacation through Niagara Falls and Montreal, so we'll get
to put a face to the Rocket Launcher! Looking forward to your pass-though
Jeff!
