JANUARY 1999 MINUTES ARCHIVE
 Thu - Jan 28th - 03:04 pm
Work's letting me out early tomorrow so I can get some running around done (...MeatPlatter's been ordered...) and tonight we're going to get some tables set-up and a couple computers, then Steve and I get to sit down and try and make 30 or so patch cables...  This will probably be my last update till after BTM6 this Saturday, and as of tomorrow evening, the Abattoir will be taken offline as we switch over to the cLANetic-Energy internal network, so EMailing me Friday evening and after will probably not get me.

We have a bunch of people taking advantage of the 'Early-Bird' set-up friday night, if you want to set-up your computer, be at the Abattoir no earlier then 6pm Friday.  Daft, SillyBum and Tempest are all crashing over (...I've picked-up some Cpt.Crunch Tempest, so you're all set...) So they'll be primed and ready Saturday.  See you all there Saturday afternoon!

 Mon - Jan 25th - 11:45 am
Feeling a little better this morning (...are my eyes square yet?..).  Thanks for all the help (...PaK, Vitolagy, Windman, Soldier7.4565...) with the Half-Life Server portions which are still kinda' whacked, but we're pumping through it bit, by bit.  As stated, the SuperFTP's back and it's bad!  Now punching over 43 Gigabytes and fast as hell...  The "MeatCAM" is back up and happy, the 100 Megabit ethernet cards are happy, the duel CDs are co-operating, piece by piece we're coming back together and everything's getting along with each other.

Yesterday afternoon right up to midnight was spent testing and evaluating Half-Life levels for the new server...  We have a collection of over 70 to go through.  We've graded them for playability, general looks, size (...not that it counts! <GriN!>) and intensity for slower machine playability (...appreciate all your help Truluk in Peterborough...).  If you go check it out now, we have a map cycle going of about 15ish levels that will be played this Saturday at BTM6 (...there will be more, but these are a go so far, and yes Aaron, Gasworks is in there of course!..)  We'll be posting another MA-MAPS.EXE in the download section and on the SuperFTP of all the Half-Life maps the Abattoir will be running as soon as we get them all picked out, we have more to go through tonight.

So, that's about it!  There's how our weekend was spent, SGT.Slaughter has engineered a beauty of a server and we couldn't be more happy, hats off again, Steve!  (...buy your Abattoir Certified server at 905 890-0337!..<Heh>).

Oh the horrors!!  The new server rocks at lighting speed!  We're working fast and hard to restore everything as quickly as possible...  The SuperFTP's back up with great new enhancements including 'resume'.  I'll drop all the details later, we're real busy trying to get everything laid back out, so just bear with us, this update is to let you know the Abattoir's IP has once again changed!  The new IP is 24.226.76.149!  So to get onto the SuperFTP, 1] you need to reapply, the accounts have been flushed (...EMail me your playname and a password...) and 2] Edit your IP!  :)

Time for an update!  Here's how we stand (...upright!..)  The new Abattoir server has arrived!!  All 200 pieces of it!  (...Ugh!..)  We're working fast and furious to get the whole thing together, and as of today, the Abattoir's down for a short time.  There was a brief card issue Steve resolved in seconds, but things are loading-up fantastic now!!  When we're done, well be throttled on a iPII-450 with over 43 Gigabytes of storage.  I'm very happy to report the Matrox G200 is performing amazing (...ain't that a relief!..).  Everything's looking good for BTM6, Vegetable has even made plans to assure her participation this time, she may even have her new machine by then...  Either way, we have the full house Abattoir-packed LAN Party from hell to get into next Saturday and I'm really looking forward to it.

We also have three or four people taking advantage of the 'Early-Bird' set-up Friday night (...one person's even sleeping over, now THAT'S Abattoir LAN Party dedication!..).  We have a total of 6 newbies for the upcoming BTM who've never been...  Another table's been purchased but I think we'll need more!  Looks like BTM7 will involve three floors of action!  (...Oh!  what a vision...).

 Thu - Jan 14th - 03:18 pm
Woah!!  We're getting hit fast and furious now!  Major hiways are closing (...I should know, I was stuck on one when they made that great decision...)  The MeatCAM, er, SnowCAM has been showing it all (...and continues to...) live as it 'piles-up'.  Here's my poor neighbour trying to attack the sidewalk with his snowblower, which is kinda' like throwing pebbles into the Grand Canyon, but you have to admire his tenacity!  This is just the start, I can't wait to see what this afternoon and tonight bring!  Thank God I have a Coke machine filled with beer!  Ohh, Slaughter just got home and has my new SB-Live card!  Looks like I have an activity for tomorrow!  :)

 Thu - Jan 14th - 10:58 am
Winter Wonderland fer sure!  State of Snow Emergency has been cast here in southern Ontario, with a wind-chill of -45 Celsius and an accumulation of 125 cm in under two weeks, the Canadian Military is arriving in Toronto at noon today!!  It's mayhem in the white stuph!  By popular demand, I've finally purchased a USB extension cable, and the "MeatCAM" has been placed at the window and for today, becomes the "SnowCAM", watch the storm live from the Abattoir as we curl-up with an hot apple cider (...AKA: Beer...) and watch ourselves get one hell of a good 'snow-job'!

I'm heading back home now (...while I still can...) so I'll catch you on the Abattoir, this is a good day for Quake!

 Tue - Jan 12th - 10:30 am
Looks like the new server will be in place for BTM6!  We're just waiting on the Hard Drives then we're going to make the third attempt at the Matrox G200 Install! (...God, have mercy on our souls...).  We're packing a full house for this coming BTM, it should be a blast!  (...Makes me pine for the summer so we can have a huge BBq...).  As stated before, please be sure to check the LAN switch to make sure your name's in there if you plan on coming out...  Remember, tell a friend, that's how the LAN Parties happen!

 Wed - Jan 06th - 09:30 am
Seems we have just about everything back in order now, there is one thing, I cannot confirm the 'confirmed' listing <GriN!>  Please take a second and hit the LAN button and review the list of players for BTM6, if you're coming out to take a rocket in the head and you're NOT in the listing, please let me know immediately!

Well it would appear we're finally back OnLine...  Globalserve who's hosting the Abattoir (...for now...) had a major failure, actually two failures; their main Corporate web server took a nose dive, and the second failure was them not having current back-ups!  So the Abattoir's received a bit of a set-back.  We've just been able to get into the web server, so we've repaired from the files we have here, but there are a few, more current files on my server at work, so give me 24 hours to get straightened away!  (...also, I'd appreciate knowing of any broken stuph you might come across...).

 Sun - Jan 03rd - 10:45 am
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!  Guess my days of bragging on the tee-shirts in January weather are over!  We received a pounding that started yesterday at noon and howled all through the night with lightning and all...  It took me 15 minutes to tunnel my way to the garage!  Yup, we have 4 foot drifts everywhere from the 14 inches of fresh winter sky poop...  The chiropractors will be busy this week as we kill ourselves with the snow shovels!  Our two neighbours attempt to get their 4x4's into the back lane while Slaughter finishes up the end of the walk to relieve me to my hot chocolate.  Now it's starting to look like winter!  What a great day to stay indoors and Quake!  Hahaha...
