JULY 1999 MINUTES ARCHIVE
Sat - Jul 31st - 10:06 am
Gee, that didn't take too long!!  Our service has been restored (...it was only out for 66 hours, that's not too bad I suppose...) <SarcasM!> but now we're back into the swing of things and of course, we have a new and improved, bigger, faster, stronger, more absorbent IP address!  We're now @ 24.141.81.7  Be sure to change your settings for the Abattoir SuperFTP -- Sorry to everyone who's been trying to get on, I received several letters, but there's very little I could do (...obviously...).

I do have some screenshots to put up (...if you're a bit of a hacker, they're already up there actually, just not linked...) <GriN!> but I won't be able to finish them off today, I have a wedding to go to then Avarice and his girlfriend may be popping over for the weekend, but we'll get right back at it next week.  Everyone have a safe long weekend (...in Canada...) and the Haha!! will return Tuesday.

Fri - Jul 30th - 09:10 am
The outage continues...  I've gone this long without food, but we're talking InterNet here!!  I wouldn't want to be one of the many "chosen ones" stuck answering the phone at Cgocable right now...  We're on our third day of dead service due to technical problems with the switchover to @home.  Routers, gateways and hubs are just not making happy-nodes right now, but we're assured the work continues around the clock to rectify the problem.  Kinda' glad I have my dial-up back-up.

Wonder when Cable will be back?!  In case you've not noticed, the Abattoir SuperFTP and the Abattoir Half-Life and Quake3:Arena Servers have been unreachable for the most part of the last two days.  Cgocable has been having "problems" in the Abattoir's area which have resulted in outages.  As a matter'o'fact, if you take a peek at the MeatCAM, you'll be able to see the exact time the Abattoir Servers have last had more than 30 seconds of service -- as of this writing that was July 28th, 3:56:24pm.  (...that's over 16 hours of down time in case you didn't want to do the math...)  The camera attempts to FTP every 30 seconds, let's just keep checking to see how long we have to put up with no service...

Be sure to check back often, there's little doubt in my mind the Abattoir Servers will have a new IP when things finally come back online...  I've actually got some screenshots to put up, but alas, it's hard to update a webpage without service.  Robes, if you know the service is restored and the cable modem needs resetting AND you happen to be in my area!  Feel free to pop in and poke the server for me, you have a key!

Take a peek at what arrived in my mailbox today, Viking sent up a couple CDs he put together "Dynamic Viking" and "Friendly Viking", nice job Jeff!!  The pictures inside are great - love the cover art too!  Thanks for thinking of me.  (...I've got them in my drive as we type...).

Who likes the new lightning gun in Quake3?  The Abattoir Quake3:Arena Server is up and rocking, it saw quite the hunk of traffic last night, come out and give it a shot.

Question: Anyone else having difficulties with MechWarrior3 after installing the new patch?  I've yet to play after the upgrade, but I've had more than one complaint come to the surface about the game quitting mid stream after a couple maps have been played.  Not a graphics lock-up, just PooF!  you're looking at your desktop...  If you want to try this new 'anti-game-addicion' patch, it's in the MechWarrior3 directory on the SuperFTP -- Let us know how it works for you.

Seems the hub's filling fast for BTM11, please get your name in if you don't want to be left out...  As most of you know, Quake3:Arena's finally had an update, so if you know that, you also probably know the FTP Server's dishing it out are getting pounded -- there's a nice fresh copy of both the full and upgrade version on the Abattoir SuperFTP Server.  I didn't have time to get at it this morning, so the Abattoir Quake3:Arena Server will be up this evening, come on out and give it a try...

Tue - Jul 20th - 10:00 pm
Only a few days after a BTM and the date's set for the next...  After the usual decision making algorithms are exercised we've arrived at August 28th!  That's the last weekend in August, just before the long weekend.  BTM11 will follow much the same format as BTM10 did -- LoSt will remain the champ of the "MeatGrinder" (...which will be held every six months...) but we will be doing an elimination match again (...far too much fun to pass up!..).  We can't expect LoSt to start panicking over losing his title so soon <GriN!>.

All the digitals are already up on the Abattoir SuperFTP, and the screenshots page will be updated shortly (...Geez, the tables are still downstairs!..)  Thanks again for the participation and start filling the hub now, we're taking confirmations already.

Mon - Jul 19th - 10:10 am
What a great game!  A big congratulations to Mike Rowe (LoSt) who won the BTM10 "MeatGrinder" championship while we all watched in the media room -- you couldn't have planned or asked for a better match.  After a few hours of elimination matches, the final came down to LoSt and Avarice (Michael Steel).  LoSt held a commanding lead in the 30min final 1-on-1 Quake2 'The Edge' DM, then, with only minutes left, Avarice tied the game with seconds to spare.  A few minutes to 'walk it off' and they were back at it for the 5min overtime match where Avarice gave in to lose it 1 to 0.

LoSt takes home the 'Tank' (...thanks again to ReSaurus for their donation!..) and earns his braggin' rights.  Well done (...all played with a mouse that had been taped together too, nice!..).

Thanks to everyone who came out, it was a great time and we're doing it all again in 6 weeks!  Yes, I promise to get screenshots up!  (...Geez, even dudio left his house and came over!..)

The transmitter is a success - we played around with it last night and it works fantastic.  I've booked Friday off, so if you need to get a hold of me, you best use my cmfm@globalserve.net account for EMail.  I'm off to pick-up the 200lbs of Buffalo Chicken Wings for Saturday (...Steve wants to know what you guys are going to eat <GriN!>...) and make some final preparations -- If you're coming out for the Early-Bird on Friday, please don't show till 7:00pm or you may find yourself sitting on the front lawn for a time. =)

Thu - Jul 08th - 07:45 am
Update for BTM10, once set up, we'll make a ladder for the "MeatGrinder" tournament - we'll do this good and simple, straight Quake2, no fancy stuph.  We're bringing back the "Wall of Quake" as I hope to have my 2.4GHz transmitter by then to power the 250" screen so we can all watch the action and cheer on our top two.  We'll run elimination till we have our champ who will then be smothered in peanut butter and thrown to the dogs... 'er, Damned!  I always let the surprises out!!

Try to make sure you save enough room on your drives for Mechwarrior3 (...240Meg...) as we'll definitely be delving into a little 'stomping' action (...I'm going to do laser eye sergery on Scorpio!..).  Please remember to take a peek at the LAN switch to make sure you're marked down if your coming -- if you're not up there, throw your reservation in now, if you're in and have found you'll be unable to attend, PLEASE let us know!
