AUGUST 2000 MINUTES ARCHIVE

Ahhh... That's construction! No I'm not addicted, but damned I love the aroma of a RamSet charge!  The long weekend is here and we're getting down to some serious nailing and screwing (...might even do some construction too!..)  Our goal...  to finish the framing and get the wiring and networking started this weekend. BTM20 "Special Edition" is pretty much full, I'm still receiving emails about people who've filled the registration form in and were not added...  Our hosting company assures us the problem's been "taken care of" -- Again, apologies if you were left out, but we're thinking a "tickets at the door" idea for spectators can't be a bad idea...  You'll still have a chance to snag a round on one of the machines, plus you'll also be eligible for the door prize (...better odds than 6/49, yes?..).  We'll keep you updated either way.  By the way, Andrew...  Tammy says stop playing games and go out once in a while!  She also says you should come up from Phillipsburg PA and join a BTM some time (...okay, I added that...).

You've all heard of the "Darwin Awards" (...anyone with email's heard of them...)  We have a true life Darwin Runner-Up story for you right close to home! Creach tells us of a roofing incident that happened last week in Toronto...  A 19 year old (...name unknown...) was going to take the day off work as it was his 19th birthday.  His father, the foreman for the company, insisted he go to work stating a birthday's not a reason to miss a days work.  While on the site of a roofing job, two roofers were using pitchforks to tear up the singles when one made a turn and knocked the others pitchfork off the second story sending it hurling to the ground below.  Directly under it...  You guessed it, our unknown was bending down cleaning up some of the debris (...which he shouldn't have been...) when the fast approaching fork made a bee-line for the back of his head.  As a result, our hero was being rushed to the hospital (...as well as an elder gentleman who witnessed the accident and fainted at the sight...) with one of the forks protruding out the centre of the young mans forehead!  He lived, but I bet he's pissed about getting "forked on his birthday".

Have a safe and happy long weekend, and for cryin' out loud...  be careful!

Contactors beware!Registrations continue, and the slots are locking in day by day!  We only have a few ports left then BTM20 "Special Edition" is full!  Construction continued into the night as we pounded up another wall after the McDowell boys grabbed hammers and wood...  LoneFart, Impaired as well as myself and Redneck disturbed DickHead next door with nail after nail, RamSet after RamSet blast as the third wall took form fast.  We could just picture him in bed wincing with every hammer pound and jumping with each blast from the RamSet...  Shame he's out at the end of the month.

We'll be going double barrel all weekend long and hope to have the framing done this weekend.  For you contractor types out there...  try to keep in mind, each wall invokes a celebration of "achievement", so there's lots of beer involved (...so don't critique our speed...).  We're now calling on electrictions out there to come forward and become a member of the crew when electrical play makes its debut this week...  If you would like to help out with the wiring and you're certified, please let us know!  The pay will suck huge, but there will be a few beers in it for you and all the Abattoir's patrons will anoint your feet with rare oils while extracts for exotic plants are...  Never mind, we'll do it ourselves.  However...  If the beer and our gratitude's enough, drop us a note and let us know if you're free.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:  Terry Ledamun plugged a "Hole in One" today while playing golf.

Slam it baby!Make no mistake about it...  BTM20 is filling and being locked in fast.  I can't stress this enough (...cuz I don't want anyone pissed off with me...) when you have paid for your ticket, you're in...  If you've not paid for your ticket, you will be bounced by anyone paying (...thus the whole "advanced ticket sales" hype...)  Good 'ol dudio popped in unexpected and dropped his $20 locking yet another spot, then took a swing with the .22cal and "drove a spike" into LAN Central this evening to secure his place in the "I helped build the Abattoir" hall of fame.

We've had a few complaints that people have filled out the registration form yet have not appeared on the BTM Listing.  Take note:  We've tested the script, it's working fine...  If you have filled out the form and your name's not in the listing, it's because we didn't get it!  Send us email instead with all the registration information and we'll add you.  Please remember, we cannot play favourites here, if you pay, you're in, if you haven't, you'll be bumped!  I'm just saying this so I don't get flak mail when all the spots are full and you've been pushed off the list by paying players.  There...  I've stressed it...  My contractual obligation's done.  Progress will continue this weekend on LAN Central, we'll keep you posted!

I love the smell of gunpowder!Redneck comes in from the rear...It's underway!  Construction has begun at the Abattoir as we start the creation of "LAN Central", an entire floor of the Abattoir build for and dedicated to LAN Parties!  Extra beefy electrical, walls filled with ethernet cables, jacks everywhere and lighting to set the mood.  Stu (LoneFart) spearheaded the effort as we began beating the hell out of 2x4's.  Extra special fun was brought in when Mark (Redneck) arrived with the RamSet nail gun...  Now live shells (.22 cal) became part of the construction (...and you know that makes it fun!..).  So far we've got two walls up and will continue tonight with construction.  Meanwhile, advanced ticket sales for BTM20 "Special Edition" are underway...  We're almost full, but payment of your ticket is the only way to lock your spot!  Don't say you weren't warned...

405-The Movie! In other news, have you taken a peek at the three minute mini-movie called "405", it was being shown around at BTM19 and it's something you have to see!  (...It's on the Abattoir SuperFTP in a rare Large Format version...)  Watch as an American Airlines DC-10 lands atop a Jeep on an evacuated section of the 405 highway in L.A.  You'll need special Codecs to view it (...also in the Videos folder of the SuperFTP...).  Best of luck to those of you who've downloaded MediaPlayer 7 (...although you can install the drivers, MicroSloth insists it "knows better" and attempts to overwrite your drivers...  Gee, some things never change...)  You can grab the movie here and the special codecs here.  This short movie was done by two special effects guys (...Jeremy Hunt and Bruce Branit...) in their spare time using nothing more than their home computers, a digital camera and commercial software.  They did it for no reason other than "it needed doing".  The computer effects these two came up with are unreal to say the least, IDG.net even did a write-up on the two today.

It's only $10, you cheap bastard!Anyone looking for plans this Saturday!?  Care to come on out and join us for a Stag&Doe?  Grant Berry and Heather Lane are tying the knot and we're throwing a little Stag&Doe this Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Oakville...  You're encouraged to join us, it's a cheap $10 (...$98 value!..) and we understand there's beer.  See you there if you're coming!  (...Tickets are available at the door...)

SPECIAL EDITIONWhat a great time!  Thanks everyone for coming out to BTM19...  Another full house.  A big thanks to Renny (Adam Crowley) for coming out and showing us why he's one of the top Quake3 players in Ontario, I think our ears are still ringing from the direct hits.  Now we turn our heads to the upcoming, "Special Edition" BTM20!  We have big plans for this BTM including a rather nice little door prize and the premier of the covenant "Abattoir SPAMly Cup"!  We're working on the LAN Room now and we're expanding our HUB to handle the demand.  Due to the magnitude of the "Special Edition" BTM, we've decided to use an advanced ticket sales policy for BTM20.  Tickets are $20 in advance (Only) and it's first come, first served.  The tickets have your draw number on them and can be picked-up any time.  Details will follow soon, but this much we know to be true...  The lowest floor of the Abattoir will BE a LAN Floor with its new permanent set-up, someone will be walking out with about 40 Gigs worth of new Maxtor storage and there will "probably" be a few Beers there...  Nuf' said!

Such a Deal!!Friday of a long weekend...  How sweet the smell!  Friday of a long weekend that a BTMis on, now that's sweet!  I love the smell on napalm in the living room!  The waiting list has shrunk yet again as David (whipped) Grima is forced, 'er, cannot make it...  Our game of play will be Quake3:Alliance and UnReal Tournament, however, I've heard a lot about Diablo II so I wouldn't mind checking that out too!  Email's are being sent out for confirmation on our attendees, keep posted if you're still on the waiting list.  Have a safe long weekend everyone!

Now I'm Screwed!!It's BTM19 time at last, we've had some dropouts, so the "Waiting List" has been bumped again.  Please be sure to check the BTM reservation list to make sure you're in.  Big news, guess who's getting hitched!?  BitchNheat!  David Grima proposed to Melissa while they were in Vegas (...geez, that's tacky!..)  Will Elvis be doing the honours, Dave?  Congratulations you two!

Just a little advanced notice, I've been very under the weather the last couple days, so if I'm draggin' my ass at BTM19, you'll know why...  Go easy on me.
