SEPTEMBER 2001 MINUTES ARCHIVE
11:28am Wed Sep 26, 2001
Warp speed ahead! Pass the Wings...Okay, Folks...  The wait is over!  We’ve been pounded with messages asking for the “inside scoop” on BTM27’s date…  Like we said, we’re on Summer Break till the Fall.  Well, it’s Fall.  We’ve thrown the magic dart at the calendar and BTM27 “Four Will Fall” Edition will be held in a short three weeks on October 20th!  We’ve got a lot to look forward to as well, be sure to get your copy of Return to Castle Wolfenstein from either FilePlanet, or from your Abattoir Personal Server (…sorry FilePlanet, but we’ve been doing this for a while too! <GriN!>..)  Yes, you heard right, the Abattoir SuperFTP+ is back (…actually, it never left…) Quick note about the SuperFTP+, if your old account does not exist, just email me or ICQ me (2345853) with your log-in and password, we’ll have you back up with an account in minutes!  (…Yes, I’ve reloaded ICQ at last, so I’m online and bitchable to almost 24/7 again…)  We’ve set-up some nice remote admin features so we’ll be able to restore your SuperFTP+ account within minutes if it’s ICQ you contact me through.  If you don’t have an account and want on now, we’ve also set-up a “limited access” public log-on you can use, just get the SuperFTP’s address from the Abattoir’s main page and use “guest” as your log-on and “newbie” as your password (…again, this is a limited access general public account…)Resistance is futile... You will be assimilated...

We’re also very pleased to announce that Gamespy Industries has picked us up as a sponsor for this BTM!  I don’t need to tell you who Gamespy is (…I would hope!..) but we’ve been in contact and the good folks at Gamespy have provided us Five Lifetime Registration Keys for Gamespy Arcade! (…$20 each, that’s US bucks too, so that’s like, One Million Dollars Canadian!..) and we’ll be givin’em out at BTM27!  One will be a random Door Prize as usual, but the other four you’ll have to fight for!  Details to come (…yes, it will be teams in Wolfenstein probably…  No, it will not be Jell-O wrestling…)  If you’ve not already done so, get over to Gamespy and grab your free copy of Gamespy Arcade now!

Of course, there’s always the news of tonight’s premier of “Enterprise”…  If you’re at all a Trekker and want to join us tonight at the Abattoir for the premier, just pop on by, check your phaser at the door and come in…  Wings are on us!  (…Borg need not attend…)

Three minutes of deathly silence... 12:20pm Fri Sep 14, 2001
Surveying the carnage...What week this has turned out to be…  Regardless, I’m quite sure there’s much more to come.  Case in point, not more than a couple of hours after air travel was resumed (…in limited capacity…) more terrorists were intercepted in two separate airports attempting a repeat air show in the US.  I consider myself somewhat affluent with respect to putting pen to paper and relaying my feelings, but words just fail me when I attempt to convey my thoughts on the happenings of this week.  The conflicting emotions of grief, disbelief, disgrace and despair all tempered with anger, disgust and hatred breed thoughts of revenge…  There’s little wonder people develop racists tendencies, especially in light of Tuesday’s horrific tragedy.  We have to all remember that a man is a man no matter what the colour, race or religion, and guilt by association makes you and I no better than the monsters who’ve perpetrated this abomination on humanity.  As flags fly at half-mast all over the free World, we’re asking for a show of union and support on this our day of grieving…  All over our country people are asked to take a moment from their evening, step out on your porch at 7:00pm tonight and light a candle in remembrance of all those who’ve parished and those who bravely made the ultimate sacrifice in aid of their fellow man.  Stories of heroism from the firefighters and police, who in face of unreal danger, placed their own lives on the line to save complete strangers, right down to the civilians who voted on flight 93 to overpower their captors in mid-air and crashed their plane in Somerset, Pennsylvania after hearing of the Trade Center attacks and knowing this was no ordinary ‘hijacking’.  They knew their lives could be over and were hell bent to prevent their plane from taking countless innocent lives.  Heroes, all of them.

Finding myself groping for words, I can only say our thoughts are with you all in this most trying time, those of us ‘removed’ from the carnage can only imagine the pain the victims families must be feeling.  It’s enlightening at the same time to see how strangers and nations have joined arms in a union of support over this, gives one hope that humanity is not totally doomed.  This week has left a lump in my throat I just can't seem to get rid of.

What can I do?  Much more than you think…  The obvious is the desperate need for blood, please see the following links and help in any way you can.

Unreal!!  Here I was about to do a LAN Minutes UpDate and thought I had a decent amount of news to relay then THIS happens!!  There’s no other way to say this other than to conclude the US is basically under attack!  The World Trade Center in New York City have been rammed by two planes 18 minutes apart…  After the first devastating explosion in Tower One at around 8:45am, coverage began live, while coverage was underway, a second plane, and we’re not talking a Cessna circled and rammed into the second tower…  Now we’re getting breaking news another plane has rammed the Pentagon.  The White House is being evacuated as I type this.  There’s report’s there’s a white jet that’s circling the White House (…classically a no-fly zone…)  The Treasury building along with many other government and financial institutions are being evacuated.  I wish I had a fatter pipe to the Internet here at work, but I don’t think it would make much difference considering all servers from ctvnews.com and cnn.com are all plugged and we’re receiving nothing but HTTP 500 Errors.  We’ve managed to get this one shot!

Needless to say, the Abattoir’s not a news center, so you best get glued to your TVs and catch the largest attack on American soil that’s ever taken place…  All I can say is this is NOT good!  A devastating and very well coordinated multiple attack, first on the World Trade Center where over 44,000 people work, now the Pentagon, what’s next?  Now we're told the south tower of the Trade Center has partially collapsed!!  1,300ft tall!  Holy shit!  We're getting word the plane that hit the Trade Tower first was a 767, but we're awaiting confirmation.  Not good...  Not good at all.
