OCTOBER 2001 MINUTES ARCHIVE
MS WinXP Day 06:10pm Thu Oct 25, 2001
Another Cha-Ching!Well with all that’s been happening in the world, it’s finally catching up to me and taking a toll…  Last night I just couldn’t sleep!  I was tossing and turning, kept waking up in the middle of the night.  At 3am I sat up in bed suddenly screaming, covered in a cold sweat.  Yes, I’m talking about the official release of Microsoft Windows XP!

I just had to run out and grab my copy of WinXP Professional today before they were all gone forever <GriN!>, I can just see Bill Gates sitting at Microsoft Central Control watching the Registration Hit Counter on his big screen plasma, cha-ching itself to death as droves of troglodytes pound the new OS into their systems and it echoes its pings back to the Mother Ship notifying them of yet another catch of over $320.00 to add to his bulging account.  Needless to say, I’m writing this LAN Minutes UpDateprior to the big C:\>FORMAT C: command, so if you don’t hear from me again, the MeatCAM goes offline, the SuperFTP+ folds in on itself, and all the Game Servers disappear from Gamespy, you know what happened.

Just a quick thanks to the Abattoir’s Clean-Up Crew, I neglected to acknowledge the awesome job they did at BTM27.  Cam (CorpsE) Smith and Evan (NeXXuS) Smith both did the set-up and an unreal teardown (…which even included sweeping the garage of all things!..)  Thanks guys, that was most appreciated!  I feel like an ass forgetting to mention it!

Oh yeah, did I mention the date’s been set for BTM28 “Jingle-Balls” Edition!?  For those out there that had a “problem” understanding the whole date issue and just in case the UpDate below is still confusing for you…

IT’S ON DECEMBER 15TH, 2001

What an outstanding time BTM27 Season Opener was!  Thanks to everyone who joined in on the carnage and a big thanks to Gamespy Industries once again for their donation of Gamespy Arcade Keys!  We finally got a little Half-Life and UnReal Tournament in at this last BTM, we’ve not played them for some time and I for one missed them…  Congratulations to Andrew (Sgt_Astro) Marchment on winning the first Registration Key in the Door Prize draw, I know that it’s going to be put to good use! The rest of us had to fight for the remaining 4 Keys and we did that in an elimination match of UnReal Tournament CTF on the FaceSE map.  Two teams battled it out and the highest 8 scores of that massacre moved on to a replay of the same map…  Four Will Fall.

Better show this time...After the smoke cleared and the time limit expired, we had our triumphant 4 standing atop the heap, yes, I was one of them!  (…Geez, I finally won something at a BTM!  Cool!..)  Our winners in the battle for Gamespy Arcade Registration Keys were: Karl (Homer) Daigle, John (CreacH) Creaturo, Cam (CorpsE) Smith and yours truly, Craig (MeatMan) Milton (…Master Sniper that I was…).  Congratulations all and well played.

We would also like to make the BTMs a little “easier” on some of the Folks out there…  It would appear that after registration, several persons seemed to have an incredible amount of difficulty remembering the correct date of the actual event to which they’ve signed-up for and missed the entire BTM altogether.  If this was surgery and you missed it, the pending results could be horrific.  Just so this doesn’t happen again, allow me to take a moment of your time to demonstrate some of the great features here at the Abattoir that we’ve put together over the years that can aid you in remembering and/or finding the actual date the upcoming BTM lands on.  Please refer to this handy chart below:

Handy Chart

Note the following, at the top of every page (…yes, we know the Abattoir has hundreds, that’s why it’s at the top of every page…) there’s our rather handy logo bar.  At the end of this bar, there will appear a graphic that will actually show you the date the next BTM is really on.  We feel this is the best way to keep you informed (…since it appears on every friggin’ page…).  We’ve amplified the logo bar in this illustration so you may get a clearer view.  Note the end of the logo bar graphic, we’ve amplified that too, so you may get a closer view…  The graphic will clearly state the month, and the day of the event.  Please note, we do NOT include the year the coming BTM is actually on, if necessary, we may alter our format and include the year if this is posing any problems for any of our patrons.

Hint! Hint!!We personally find this system to be helpful and informative, however, as that’s not quite enough, we’ve also included a handy “BTM” page which can be viewed at any time.  On this page, the date is stated in several positions, but most notably, in large letters above the Registration Table. (…Click here for a sample…)

If all else fails and you’re still unclear if the event is actually approaching, please feel free to contact myself, or any other Abattoir Staff member, we would be happy to come to your house and paint the date on your garage door for you.

Having said all that…  Some of the “quicker” Abattoir readers may have noticed that as of this writing of the LAN Minutes, the above aforementioned logo bar has indeed altered its appearance yet again (…this happens soon after a BTM has finished…).  You might want to investigate further.  Game On!  (…for some anyway…)

Careful! This paper is covered with Ant-Trax!We’re a day away now, I can almost hear the roar of the subwoofers…  Although it took me over 30 minutes to get into my HIV Suit and dawn my rubber gloves, then another 10 minutes to track down some fresh batteries for my filter vented air hood, I finally got dressed and opened my mail today…  Is this Anthrax crap going to end any time soon?  I did get a piece of paper handed to me today at work with two tiny trails of dots running all over it and an image of an Ant at the end, the letter said “Careful, this paper is covered in Ant Trax” (…cute…).

Actual Size, this image is NOT enhanced! We’ve managed to acquire two massive 24 socket power bars for the main tables in LAN Central, we’re hoping this will stop people from “daisy-chaining” their power strips together and causing mid-game blowouts, so look for them when you set-up! Sgt.Slaughter made a comment that his “head looks too small” in the image below, I just wanted everyone to know, Steve does not have a head like Beetlejuice, it’s just the angle the image was shot at.  Regardless, I’ve corrected the picture to proper proportions.  Happy, Steve?

Again, we still have a couple ports free if you’re in the mood to recruit for BTM27, we’re already a full house, but let’s get that elbow space filled!  Catch you “Early-Bird” folks tomorrow evening!  Don’t forget, the Leaf’s take on the Canucks tonight in a late showing game, doors are open if you wish to join us!

BTM27 - Gimmie a Key!Well we’re finally here!  BTM Week is upon us and we’re almost full (…even with our expanded ports…)  If you know anyone who would enjoy a romp at the Abattoir this weekend, give’em a poke and sign them up, there's still a couple ports open!  We’re still taking suggestions on what game to play for the Gamespy Arcade Registration Keys, feel free to drop us a note if you have a suggestion.

This Network's as fast as I am on a Chicken Breast!Sgt.Slaughter made an appearance yesterday to give the Abattoir's in-house network a thorough once-over for the 2001-2002 season and we're happy to report everything's 110% (...which is mathematically impossible, but hey...)  We've even found a few dozen bad patch cables that the Taliban has snuck into the mix in order to thwart our fun and disrupt communications at the Abattoir, but we're too fast for them.  (...this BTM will also be Anthrax Free...)  LAN Central's been steam cleaned and we're all set!

Don’t forget, it’s also Hockey time!  We watch every game at the Abattoir so consider it an open invite if you want to join us for any of the Leaf’s games, the Media Room has plenty of couch space and there's Wings for everyone!  Don’t forget to check out “Game On”, an Abattoir Portal Site created by our own CorpsE!  Now that our WebServer is up and happy, you can get at the Abattoir Portals Here!  Want to put a site up for free?  Drop us a note and we’ll set you up!

To avoid any “lag” this weekend, we ask again that you have all your games updated and ready, also note, we will (…come hell nor Taliban…) be playing some Half-Life too, so make sure you’re all patched-up and good to go.
