OK, Im rewiring my basement during my renovation for networking... Im looiing for some suggestions for a Gigabit router and an unmanaged switch. I NEED more than 8 ports. Should I buy 2 8s or should I look for a bigger switch. It seems the price more than doubles as soon as you go more than 8 ports....

1 gigaabit router with 3 5 or 8 port switches, all off a different gigabit port on the router...

lolz not dead, just busy, not checking in as frequently. I've seen 16 port gig switches for about 210 bux ish....d-links...but given your lack of need with respect to multiport switching I would say that any two gig hubs will work just fine for you.

They are not hubs as I understand... just unmanaged switchs.... There is a difference isnt there?

No they are not...but given what you are doing with them...and how much traffic you'll have on your lan...they should be more than sufficient.
